I just went to the bank, while asking about halves, I said"You dont happen to have any loose ones, do you" the one I asked said I do" I dont know if the other tellers have any. I saw the one I ask take em out of her draw, she picked out the only silver one and handed me the rest.....

Obviously she knows which ones are silver. Go back when she is not there.

They are 40% silver. I suggest just holding right now. Let the metals go back up.

MAN! I would have said...I WANT THAT ONE TOO! Took some nerve on her part to do that right in front of you.

Don't feel bad, I have had a teller tell me that she had already pulled all the "good coins" out of what they had when I went to get some rolls to hunt. I now go to a different bank to get my rolls and take all the returns back to that branch. I hope she is searching those

Banks can be such a pain. I went to my home branch once and asked for 10 rolls of quarters (trying to make up complete sets of the canadian provinces and such) the teller I was at counted out the rolls and everything was fine.... until another teller saw what she was doing over her shoulder and opened all the rolls and started pulling out the collectibles for herself!! With me standing right there as if I was going to wait for her to search all my rolls, re-count and then re- wrap them.

She seemed oblivious to anything even as I said to her that I had already paid for those rolls and that technically she was forcing me to stand and watch while she stole from me. (in my opinion anyway)
Well of course I asked for my cash back and complained to the manager that maybe the tellers should roll search on their breaks instead of when someone is there trying to get their banking done. LOL

Not sure my complaint changed anything as I never used that branch for coin pursuits again.

jeez.. just thinking about it has me irritated all over again.

malissadawn, did you get the cash back? Any way if the teller I was at wanted the half she should have took it and not kept it in the drawer if she did not want to risk people asking for halfs. I know the head head, mabey I can ask here if she could save stuff for me, on the other hand I dont want to open a pandora box and create gripes with others in the bank. Mabey i'll go back and offer a few buck for it if its "there"

I've had a teller hand me a 1964 and say "This is silver."

Anytime I see a teller drop a coin or bill back into a drawer I specifically say "I want that one too." Sometimes it flusters them and they don't know what to do so they give it to you. Other times they say "I'm buyign that one." It doesn't hurt to ask.

I've had a branch make me so mad that they turned into my dump back. There is one old lady that is an old bitty. I always make sure I get her when I can and I give her $1000 or $1500 worth of halves.

I did get my cash back. They didn't really have a choice. I sometimes try to back away from causing trouble at the banks but when they totally overstep the boundaries (my boundaries) I do get mad enough to speak up about it. It is upsetting to make a specific trip to the bank for something and they find what you are hoping for and keep it.
