I'm going to go out and buy another pair of scales today for tomorrow I broke my other ones but this penny is silver and it's brass looking on the other side I shot a picture of two pennies side by side

You really don't have to rush out and buy a scale just yet . That Lincoln Cent is plated . It's not silver .

Better lit, larger and sharper photos may tell us more. At the moment, I'm not thinking counterfeit Lincoln Memorial cent. Appears to be a 'rough/crude' plating or painting job.

Or just coated with zinc. It has a recipe on how to fake these.

But how do you only plate one side? Whatever it is (paint or plate) it's definitely wearing off on the high points of the cent

I'm going to use an eraser on the other side of it if it removes it then it's got to be plated with copper right

That's a pretty cool recipe there Coop but if a true 1976 it should already be copper correct mom said using eraser I use the eraser on the reverse side the coppertone is removed I have a silver 1976 penny at least mostly silver

Or one side could be painted. I had save that recipe a long time ago and was looking in my down load files, and there it was. It is amazing what you find when organizing your computer.

Yes sir Coop I can believe. And I respect the heck out of your opinions but in this case it's not like that. There is silver underneath the coppertone I'm fixing to get a pair of snippers and cut it in half because my curiosity is going crazy but then again I may tear up something that shouldn't be out I don't know

Your very first set of photos (the uncropped ones) were your best. I agree, your cent is plated or painted. It is always best to remove your coins for paper 2x2s (as your later photos show). If your cent was plated in zinc, it would appear silver in colour. Quote: I'm going to use an eraser on the other side of it if it removes it then it's got to be plated with copper right ((shakes head))
