A while back I posted an 1985 with a diagonal cut across the planchet. This only goes half way across but appears to be of the same nature.

If this is determined to be on the planchet prior to striking, it must happen quite often.

A cut would be post mint damage, which this is. That is obvious the way it affects both the columns and the bays equally.

I do not agree. A cut made after the strike would be heavier on the tops of the columns, and would likely not affect the bays. It would also have missing areas in the crevaces, which this does not. I believe this is some form of problem the planchet had before it was struck. That's the only way the result could look like this.

Although I doubt it's much, and I doubt it's worth a heck of a lot, this is a mint made error of some sort.

Here's a couple of pictures that tend to lay creed to Charles opinion. Note how the columns show much heavier damage than the bays. No, I didn't do this.
