I am visiting my sister and my brother-in-law has a nice collection of coins. This 1889 O Morgan dollar may either be very worn or mis-struck. I see a broadstrike on the reverse and alot of missing detail both sides. In addition the gouge on both sides do not show a break in rim on outside of coin, probably manmade...?

Not sure what to tell my brother-in-law and hoping for some help!

Thank you and apologize if pictures are not good enough.

Just a well-worn coin with damage. Normal coin, not a broadstrike.

Ok thanks Coinfrog. Much appreciated. The rim disappeared on the reverse and I wasn't sure if you could wear that down to that extent so I thought I should ask. Thanks again!

Broad strike would effect the whole coin - not just a damaged area - But lotsa nice silver there, don't forget!

to the CCF @Cons!

Your images of the subject coin are very nice. There is damage at 9:00 and just normal circulation wear beyond that..
