On the bottom right edge, under the date, it's very small compared to the opposite edge

Looks like a casino coin. Casinos were for years the biggest users of half dollar coins. The coins took many thousands of hits. When voucher machines came into vogue half dollars had little use.

Close-up means just that specific area near the date you're referring to.

Quote: On the bottom right edge, under the date, it's very small compared to the opposite edge Well if that area wasn't worn from circulation then possibly it could have been minted that way - a slightly Misaligned Die (MAD) strike. EDIT: And technically that would be the "RIM" - the "EDGE" would be where the reeds are.

I agree that this looks like a minor MAD.

Weight would tell more. If it is under weight, then it was acid dipped. If it is normal weight, it may have been heated. I'm thinking it is probably light?
