Is the '42 D photo meant to be the reverse of the '97 quarter?

Looks like a normal circulated dirty coin. On a Struck Through Grease the devices are flat looking and wider.:

Not literal grease on the coin. The mint didn't do that. It happened later on in its life, before you received it.

Not a Liberty quarter,it is a Washington quarter. Looks like acid damage to me.

Agree, just looks like wear and damage. There's no characteristic weakness in any of the devices to suggest a grease strike, all the details are or were once fully there

p.s.- never a good idea to hold your coins in your fingers the way you did in your photos. Oils from your skin can leave your finger prints etched on the surface of your coin, destroying any numismatic value your coin might have. Always lay your coins down flat to photograph them. If propping up your coin to show the edges, lay atop other coins, or purchase an inexpensive pair of cotton gloves from any where that sells hobby supplies. Just fyi.

The edge of your coin is showing post mint damage ( PMD). no mint error involved.
