I found this penny in pocket change. To magnification scrutiny I see the coin hasn't been altered by sanding off the words nor has the words been chemically removed. Also I noticed the words haven't been worn off by years of circulation. This coin looks genuine. Please give input and if decided that what I've discovered a truly unique and rare error how much can I get and where can I get the best price if I decide to sell it. Thank you.

Yes, would appear to be a Grease Filled Die issue--not terribly uncommon with Lincoln cents (and others for that matter).

Sadly, the poor condition would make this one a spender for me.

I do appreciate the reply but to say it's a common occurrence is not true. How many 2003 D pennies have you come across out of your 10000 pennies that you have the pleasure of examining had the words "WE TRUST" Missing? That's what I thought "0" so that's how "common" my penny is... Huh. In fact I'll bet my life says you never in your life have come across "ANY" USA Minted c oin with the words "WE TRUST" MISSING. I would like honest, Tr

A Grease Filled Die is a common occurrence. Maybe not " we trust" but some devices on the coin. There are probably 2003s out there that have all the motto filled. It was a cent that I found 50 years ago that started me into the great hobby of errors & varieties. " in god" was missing. I just knew the mint had made a mistake and left it off, I was rich. Until one of the older collectors splained it to me. We call them atheist coins. I still have the coin. Stick around, there is a lot of things to learn from this site.

I would like to clarify that no matter how the coin came about in missing words on it never the less it came from the mint with missing words. Unaltered by human hands if any of you critics that have suggested it be a common occurance then with your superior intellect on coinage present me with just a few coins that words are missing on any coin. Entire words completely missing with no evidence of foul play nor grease when die hit coin. Notice there is "NO" Evidence of grease in any forum on the penny to suggest this. Try again coin community.

If you think it's a true 'mint error' then go and send it in and have it professionally evaluated.
But do not go start insulting the folks here.

By the way, it was struck by a die that was filled with grease. Grease that has been long wiped/washed/worn off.
How about YOU prove otherwise that it is a true error.
