If it weighs 57 grams, it is a British pure copper Twopence.

Pure copper is soft. That is why it is so severely edge bumped. That is normal for these coins in this condition.

G-VG grade.

Value: Look at ebay SOLD items in similar condition

How did they carry them? Remember this coin would have bought a lot more in its day than any one modern coin. So only one of the old coins went a long way towards basic needs daily.

A more modern example is that US Barber and early Walking Liberty halves are normally pretty worn down from usage. Back then .50 was a lot of money compared with today. So carrying one or two was no big deal in older times. But when .50 started to be worth a lot less, the number of heavier coins needed daly increased and people stopped carrying/using them.

As to value, not a great deal in that condition. Good ones can make £50 to £100 easily, but in that condition I would put it on my stall for no more than £5.
