Thought I would pass along the history of Memorial Day in the U.S. for those who may not be aware of it. Originally known as Decoration Day, this is an important day for every American to remember all the men and women who died in service to our Country as members of our military. We fly the flag, honor the fallen at cemeteries across the country and pause to remember their sacrifices for all of us. It's an important day to many of us who have lost family members in combat. If your reply was meant as a political commentary - this isn't the time or place for that.

Actually before you all jump on your high horse. I know the significance of Memorial Day. We have a similar day in New Zealand and Australia called Anzac Day.
It celebrates the sacrifice of the brave troops of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZACs) at Gallipoli on April 25th 1915. Where some 10,000 soldiers died in a useless campaign set up by the idiotic Winston Churchill and other donkeys who forced lions to their death.
The day has dawn and memorial services in both countries and involves the wearing of poppies for blood shed at Flanders field. Now we also celebrate the veterans of all wars including World War 2, the Korean War, Vietnam (Yes NZ has Vietnam vets too), Gulf War, Afghanistan and other recent peackeeping missions. Veterans also parade of all these wars.
The last Gallipoli Veteran died in 1995 and the last WW1 soldier in 2007 (He was 105 and lied about his age to serve in 1918). Now our oldest are WW2 veterans, most 90 and over.
I merely mentioned the other thing as I thought this thread may be about it as its all over the news here. But I guess in the USA its not that important.
I was going to stay out of this, but now I need to step in...
I have to admit, the topic title is misleading, as I actually made the same assumption as Prince. I was ready to "moderate" if it had gotten out of hand, but once I realized it was for Memorial Day I left it. It was on me to make the title clearer; I had the opportunity before Prince's first reply and I failed.
This is all to say that what happened in Tulsa a century ago is important to many of us. However, this topic was not the topic to discuss it! Same would apply if this topic actually was about Tulsa, and others jumped in to make it about Memorial day.
The right thing to have done here? Hold off on the "hijack reply" and report this topic to the staff so the title can be clarified.
I don't think anyone is riding a "high horse" here. There were a number of prior posts in this thread that, at least to me, laid out what the thread was about. I never served in the military but I have a great-uncle inside the USS Arizona and an uncle somewhere in southeast Asia that never made it home. My nephew is flying helicopters in the middle east serving this great country. Memorial Day is important to me. I see no political commentary in this thread otherwise. I have seen commentary on other threads where you have made your opinions known - including your last one here. I wanted to express MY sentiments if they are allowed here in the Main Coin Forum. If not - my apologies to everyone.
