We don't see too much ephemera on this website, so I thought this would be a fun addition. I found this Half Library Slip issued by the Minute Tapioca Company for use by the Magazine and Book Company. Evidently, these were included with various products and in aggregate could be used to pay for magazine subscriptions. In my mind at least, the concept is similar to those old S&H green stamps that I remember as a kid. As you can see, the date on this piece is 1913 and the cash value is 1/2¢. It seems that these were issued in a variety of fractional denominations.

Here is an old magazine advertisement for these things if you'd like to do some additional reading.

Finally, for those of you looking to really dig into this piece, here is a link on a bit of the history of the Minute Tapioca Company--based out of North-Central Massachusetts (Orange).

I've not seen these before - an interesting piece of history. Thanks for posting!

If the 1/2 Library Slip was the highest value piece, it would take 200 of them to earn a book or magazine (per the ad). If a customer received one slip in each qualifying product's package, it would require lots of product purchases to achieve 100 slips! The book/magazine prize could ultimately prove quite costly!

I've always liked numismatic ephemera, and have collected it for years. I've posted quite a bit of it over in the US Commemorative Coins threads as supplements to my coins.

Interesting! Posts like this are why CCF is always a great learning experience. The slip also says it could be used to purchase music. I wonder if this was also a forerunner to music subscription services such as the long-ago Columbia Record Club and today's streaming services.
