I was checking out MSN News feeds and saw a link to "Things from the 80s that are worth a fortune today" with this image of a very tired 1983-D Washington quarter.
This could be one of the reasons we are met with less than enthusiastic replies to the answers we give from time to time. I mean, MSN would never put something in print that wasn't researched!
Below is the screen capture of the coin with "... a mistake in printing..." that caused a "...smudged "In God We Trust"..." which increased the value by almost 100,000 times.
Ummm.
ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!
So sad. Of course it's on Etsy. It's sad that maybe someone might even buy that. Maybe they'll be able to knock down the price by a grand and get free shipping. You're right about how some dislike the answers they get from CCF.
The only reason the 1982 ,1983 in BU is that they didn't sell mint sets those years. If you wanted a mint set those years, you had to buy from each mint. Thus BU quarters are in demand for new collectors. The motto on the 1982 looked like that on all quarters.
