Hey Guys and Gals,

I found this today. It appears on the obverse there is an "S next to the D" and on the reverse the "C and the A" in America touch. What do you think?

They both look like Die Chips on a well worn coin.
It is impossible during the striking of a coin to have a "ghost" letter or number suddenly appear.
If there was one, it would have to be on the striking die in which case all the coins would struck would have it.

It also appears there may be doubling on Lincoln's Nose?

Abe's nose took a circulation hit (as did his chin). I agree with JimmyD's take concerning the phantom S. And, nice die chip on the right wheat stalk.

Thanks for the feedback. Not for nothing, it does look like an "s" right?

I don't see an S. My guess is Pareidolia if I'm looking in the right spot. Your mind is trying to make sense of a shape that it can't put a name on, like a rorschach test.

Some combination of circulation damage and toning has created this effect. It's conceivable that is a worn die chip, but it is not an S mint mark in any event.

Possible die chip on the area in question. If it were an 'S' it would be at least as large as the mintmark. And this would have been noticed a long time ago it it were a mintmark punch.
