I posted an odd silver toned SAC here last month. I submitted to PCGS knowing it probably was not an struck on an SBA but thought it was a unique coin regardless. Some ppl here thought it might have been dipped in vinegar - but sure enough, PCGS slabbed it as VF20. Thanks for everyone's help on this coin.

Manos, do you have to go through a dealer to submit your coin to PCGS?

No I just submit them myself. I usually don't bother unless it's gold. But I was curious and had a modern order going out so I included it. Also got a rainbow toned SAC 2000-D back AU58.

I submitted it as a worn coin based on what the people here told me :)
I believe that if it had been an error coin, they would have body-bagged it as an incorrect service level - so in a way I chose the cheapest method of slabbing to both test the grade of the coin and to see if it was an error coin.

I went to their site yesterday and it said I have to go through a dealer or join them for x amount of dollars. How is it you could submit them yourself?

I paid for their lowest level joining fee. It makes itself back in one good coin.

That has to be a candidate for a registry set on the low end

I don't get it...you paid to have a worn Sac coin slabbed. It's not an error it's a VF sac...that's it. How much did it cost to encase it in plastic? It doesn't matter how you sent it in, all they did was grade a worn coin. It proves nothing.

I don't think they'll send it back bodybagged if you don't choose error service level. Just like if you don't choose variety attribution, they just grade it and send it back.

I'm completely baffled too. I have no idea why anyone would want to slab a VF Sac dollar except to have the lowest graded example for many years to come.

I questioned him on how he sent it in to them because I want to send one in as well.

It was worth it just in case it came back in a body bag as the wrong service level - and it really was struck on an SBA... but I will sell it on ebay.. the real test of if it was worth it.
