Awesome. This is a great idea, thanks for sharing. The pics are pretty good considering they are still in the album. Crazy that you would have a 14D before a 14S :)

Sweet coins! How do you get the individual pictures to group like that?

ceaton, lol..yeah I know sounds crazy to have 14D before 14S (I prob have one somewhere that could fill the hole, but want AU or BU)...I was advised by some very wise members of this forum to purchase the keys in the highest grade I could afford as soon as possible, always being able to upgrade later. JonS.7070, I took photo of each coin, then photoshoped them to size and copied and pasted on a new canvas. It only took about 3 hrs! Thank for the comments guys!

I have always said "get the keys first". At least that's what I do consider the upswing they have been experiencing in value. Even if it's a "filler", it's still a key. You will always have a buyer later. Trust me.

Pretty cool! The only problem I have with Dansco is you're limited to just one example of each. I like the ability of having multiples.

That is an awesome album. I also like collecting the key dates first. This incentivizes me to collect the rest of the series.

So if you acquire a slabbed 09-S VDB, will you crack it out and put it in the album? Or live with the hole, knowing you have the coin elsewhere?

I do it backwards. I collect everything but the keys first. I know its not smartest, but if I went out and spent 1k or something on a coin, that will be the last one I ever buy cuz my wife would kill me. Now, I have an excuse to say, "honey, I just need this one thousand dollar coin to finish my set". She will understand then, and only then :)
There is always two sides to things :D

Very nice, thanks for sharing! Quote: Crazy that you would have a 14D before a 14S :) I was thinking the same thing, but knew there would be people defending the art of buying the keys first! Sadly, I am not one of them, but wish I had been! All I need are keys for my LHC Dansco!

Nice start neversuited! I gotta say though, I do the same thing. The best example is probably my SBA set. The first coins I bought were the 1980-S Proof ( my birthyear) and the 1981-S type 2. The last piece I got was the 1979-S type 1. I even got that weird 1982 Proof Set medal before the 79-type 1. It's always good to get your keys first. But ceaton, I understand why you do it the other way. It's important to keep the significant others happy. Thankfully, my girl collects stamps, so she understand why I sometimes drop a couple hundred bucks when I start a new series.

Thanks for all the comments! btw wheatiefan, I would def break Mr. 09 S V.D.B. out and put him amongst his friends. I keep all my graded empty slabs. They can always be regraded, if someone is not willing to take my word for it, if I decide to sell them. I am a collector first and an investor second.
