The first photo obviously shows the whole coin, 1979d. The most obvious is the raised area that appears to start from Washingtons' nose running down to his throat. Closer inspection reveals that it actually begins above the ear. Washingtons' nose, chin and the we (In God We....) are imprinted over this line. There are several bends and dips that don't show up in the picture. On the reverse in the 9 o'clock area the wing appears to be malformed. This item was sold to me as a Major die clash/planchet error. Don't worry I didn't pay much for it.
I don't know if this is a real error or a manipulated coin. I hope you folks can help. Thanks in advance.

@max, whenever we see clad coins with odd bulges on them like this, we attribute this to them being exposed to high heat after leaving the mint. For that reason, we call them campfire coins. The dark surface staining on your coin seems to back up that hypothesis.

Agree with Spence. Only high heat would cause a coin to distort like that.

Damage on a coin is just a face value coin. To spend time on them is like trying to diagnose what a dead body. When see it is gone, move on to the next coin.

If you paid more than 25 cents for this "error" coin, take it back immediately and buy your coins elsewhere from now on! I agree with Spence, this is a fire damaged coin, and nothing more. Post mint damage ( PMD).

to the CCF!
