An interesting find @dave. I wonder if there is a much of a premium to these--not sure how often they pop up.

They are just damage to the coin. The plating has been pierced and now the zinc rot sets in. Just a spender. A damaged coin is not one you want to keep. Put it back to work.

I think there's more than just a "damaged " coin going on here.Sure it was damaged but that brought attention to that jagged line that runs from the rim through Abe's hair.

Coop I have a question. How dose it get damaged from the mint like this? This coin came from a Box of new 2020 D I ordered from my bank. I have one other's like it from the same box not peeling. I also have a 2014 and a 2013 with similar marks. What at the mint would cause the damage?

After the strike they are not carefully put into a bin. They are often dropped on each other as they come out of the machine. Several coins a second. To them they are pocket change, to us, they are gold. Also factor in counting machines, wrapping machines. It is like rush hour on the coins to get them to storage to send all over the U.S. This one looks like if fell out of the machine onto cement. It happens. That is why we look for the best, the rest are just pocket change.

Bank rolls don't come from the mint. Coins get re rolled all day because it makes them easier to quantify and transport.
