Would this be called a Cud on the nose of this penny?

No, a Cud involves the rim of the coin. Can't tell if it is raised or incuse. If it is raised, it is a Die Chip, if incuse, it is damage.

It is raised. Die chips aren't worth anything are they?

Check the lighting. It is incuse. Not raised. It is just a contact mark. It it were raised, the shadow would be on the opposite side.

Note the light direction your coin. Note it it coming from the top of the coin. Look at the nose, face, beard, you can see shadow. On area is white, the other area is dark. Light is the direction. Dark is the shadow. So something raised will show lighter. Something lower, will show darker in color. Note the flair on the nose? It is light, but the affected area? Darkened with light at the bottom. So if the area in question was a chip that was raised, the light would be on the area in the direction of the light, the lower side would be dark. If the mark was incuse, the light would be reduced light at the top, and full light on the bottom of that area. So the area in question is incuse because the light and darkness is opposite what is normal. )).jpg)
