My mom worked in a bank, and this coin caused a bit of an issue as I remember.

She ended up 'buying' it at face value. It was in a roll of halves. I've seen burnishing ball entrapment before, and I have no clue what could be trapped inside this thing. Is it a ball that somehow gave JFK a goiter?

Just curious if it might be worth something. As can be seen in the pictures, the 'bump' is on both sides. It looks kinda dirty too. Someone told me to not clean it. I've got tons of other old coins, but after googling for a 'price book', that was disappointing.

Things like silver dimes, tons of those; a run of 9 $2 1964 bills worth about $18, Franklin silver coins, not worth much, Mercury dimes that are too worn, steel pennies worth a penny, etc. Disappointing...

Also some old foreign coins and notes. Even post WWII script notes.

Unfortunately this did not happen at the mint. The coin was exposed to high heat that melted and expanded the inner copper core. The Nickel was in a glass transition state which allowed it to deform from the increased pressure from the copper core.

The coin looks like it's been heated. It could have been a house fire or maybe someone did this intentionally. It caused the clad layers to separate from the copper core and that made these bubbles. It's not a mint error, just Post Mint Damage. PMD

The bubbles can be flattened again. But the coin will never be worth more than face value.

If you look values for damage coins = metal value. No collector buy damages coins. You tell about other staff from bank and some could be value.
