I think it is fake. The stars are way off for 1842. But the experts I am sure will chime in.

If it were still available I would be a buyer at that price. If Fortin has one in his collection it's not a bad novelty but a piece of Americana. Greer has one too.

I have a few nice French counterfeits, but not as nice as this. It's blundered on so many levels.
