Some of my modern commemorative proof coins have a foggy/hazy film in the field on the mirrored surface! Does any buddy know where does this come from and/or how to get rid of it?

Quite common, I believe it's from oxidation. I know of no way to remove it, I've tried on an experimental piece. From what I've read NCS can remove it....but I'm sure it's expensive so the proof had better be valuable.

I don't know if anybody remembers that the mint supposedly "found" some unsold proof sets and put them up for sale a few years back.

I bought four, and all had spots. Should have sent them back, but I didn't.

This is quite common on the 40% silver "brown" (proof) and "blue" (uncirculated) Eisenhower dollars. All of my silver Eisenhower dollars have some degree of this clouding; the proofs being the more obvious ones.
