BigSilver Pillar of the Community United States 2843 Posts	Posted 06/18/2021 11:14 am I tried something new yesterday and I wanted to hear your opinions. The Issue: I find it hard to get good lighting on Morgan dollars. I t always seems that part of the coin is too dark. The Proposed Solution: I took 2 or 3 photos without moving the coin, but I moved the lights that I was using. Then, using Canon's compositing tool, I merged the 2 or 3 photos into one using a weighted average and adjusted to where I liked the look. Here are some examples. Note: one set has a different background. I was testing what background looked best. I am not really sure which I like better.... Report this Post to the Staff

rmpsrpms Pillar of the Community United States 4038 Posts	Posted 06/22/2021 2:44 pm It can be used with the camera flash but generally with external lights. I use the diffuser with Jansjos, one at 10 and one at 2. I vary the amount of diffusion by moving the lights closer or farther from the diffuser. I make my own diffusers out of Opalux paper. Yes, it is extra work and for what it is worth, I used the same method from some of my more recent coin photos. Would I prefer to do it the correct way with lighting? Yes. Maybe one day. westcoin Pillar of the Community United States 9792 Posts	Posted 06/29/2021 08:22 am I think the exposure may be under by 1/3 of a stop or so. Give it a little boost, not much but a bit more. Color looks good, as does white balance. Try changing that in Camera Raw. The focus is a touch soft for me too, what is the F-stop you are shooting at? I've since read that to be untrue. I probably was using 9 or 10. IIRC. About exposure, I'll try to adjust that and see if I get better results. Thanks. Report this Post to the Staff
