Maybe just a well circulated LDS 10c but the rim on the obverse is strange and the uneven wear on reverse EPU is also puzzling. What is happening here? Die adjustment?

The Roosevelt dimes struck in 1985 were well known for mushy, weak strikes like this. It was a problem with the upset on the planchets not being deep enough. If the upset is too shallow, the resulting coins will not strike up properly.

I bought this 1985-D Roosevelt dime thinking it was a Grease Filled Die strike then thought it might be an adjustment strike, but now I understand that it's an inadequate upset error. http://goccf.com/t/354227

Very good to know, yokozuna! I have a couple similar ones that I assumed were grease strikes as well, but now thinking about them more carefully, a grease strike would have fully formed rims, and the ones I'm thinking of do not. Any idea how rare these are? Worth saving, or is this a pretty common error?

I'd say common.

I was a kid filling in Whitman folders when these came out. I saw my first ones like that and thought, "Ooh! Special..."

Found several more in bank rolls. I understood enough math at the time to conclude that meant, "Ahh. Not so special..."

Maybe save one if it is extreme so that you have an example of this type of 1985 thing.

Thanks Yokozuna, that's some good info.

Interestingly, found one of these slabbed on ebay.
