Agreed with MS63 BN, however, depending on how it was stored, being it's in a slightly older holder, could have received a RB at the time.

MS63 I think its more than 5% red so I'm going with RB designation. nice

I paid 600 for this a while ago, which I knew was strong then. I bought it because I simply liked the coin as a high enough quality type coin for braided hair Half Cents (without being too expensive). I am really curious about where the distinction between BN and RB is, as in some grades this distinction seems to affect market values quite a bit!

In certain lighting, the red comes out a lot more. This is a hard one to photograph. I didn't even try for this shot of the slab...

Nice in the full slab shot it does look a lot more red. I can't find the PCGS Gold Shield guarantee on RD and RB color designations. NGC will cover the color designation for up to 10 years from the date of the grading. Just wondering if PCGS does anything like that it may be close to getting it into a new holder so the guarantee would still be valid if they do anything with color guarantees. Sure is a pretty coin, After watching Bill Eckberg's NNP and EAC talks during the pandemic, he mentioned just how few Half Cents there are left in the wild, less than all the 1909-S VDB's in the world. No wonder these prices are going to keep climbing. I think nice EAC coins are great investments. This one at GrapeCollect's work (Julian Leidman) should make you feel pretty good about that $600 you spent! https://www.ebay.com/itm/180954196860The only other one I found is from a DL Hansen collection "reject" https://www.ebay.com/itm/393383967459Most of all the MS64RB latter date common Half Cents (if any can really be called common) are at least $1K+ now days.

Thanks, WestCoin. The 1853 DL Hansen one doesn't look red at all in those pictures. The expensive one at GrapeCollect's work looks pretty nice, but it sure is expensive. I am not sure if mine would even go for 1000 USD, but I am happy with it as a type coin!
