From what I'm starting to learn, this would be MD and not a DDO because of the flattening correct?

The flattening is caused by the removal of the contour on that side of the devices. This is a reduction of the overall size of the devices. To understand hub doubling on the quarters, going back a few years, you can see how they were created in the past years:

Note the double set of devices with the notching in the corners of the devices?

Note on this one, the devices are thicker from the doubled die on these devices?

While this one looks like Machine Doubling, it not. Note the extra thickness of the devices?

Very nice spread on the central areas of these devices?

Note the spread on the left side of the devices? This shows that it is a doubled die. Often spread is seen on normal coins as the master hubs age and the devices on the left side of the motto will be wider than on the devices on the right side of the motto. But this is a listed DDO.

Note on this image the doubling is on the date. But this one is a different die than the other one I posted. (FS-102) But noticed on the left side of the motto, the spread that is normal on these devices, with the left sides devices being wider?
On the post 1999 quarters on the DDO, this area is no longer a DDO anymore. The earlobes and the motto devices are affected on the DDO's since then with the single squeeze die being used.

Distortion of devices makes the devices look real different. Also note the image on the left is showing a comparison with a mahcine doubled example.

On the earlobes this are will show a raised area on the lobes or fields on the post 1999 forward quarters.

So I hope this will help you see the differences.

CoopHome: Differences on the earlier quarters on the DDO on the Motto. Also the motto on the post 1999 forward quarters.
