I brought a 1986 uncirulated set from ebay and all the coins are upside down. I suppose somebody could in theory somehow jiggered the coins upside down but it would have been a lot of work and as far as I know nobody much cares about packaging errors. Anyway is this a thing anybody has seen or heard of?

In my experience with US uncirculated mint sets (NOT proof sets), the coins have come in a variety of rotational orientations--not so much relatively new sets ('tighter', less flexible packaging), but earlier sets.
Photos would be interesting. Thanks.

i don't know what you mean exactly, depends on the set. however I have heard people place wrong coins in year set and wrong coins hahaha. For Australian mint sets some times they do move around and depending on the year, as for proofs would need to see someone/machine might have place a few coins incorrectly.

Maybe, but I don't think packaging errors are that popular. A couple of wrong year sets are in the catalogue though.

Great conversation piece, my guess is the packer was having an off day then. Perhaps he was unhappy about the path of Scott and Charlene's relationship on neighbours, or his new mullet had not been fluffed right.
Or if a woman, maybe her frizzy perm was looking tired and rather than a comb up, she just busy girled it.
(Kath and Kim and Neighbours references).

i would say so wrongly packaged not so popular due to the fact that people ask for way too much for the sets usually x5 retail, I'm not sure how much it would sell for.
Had the coin be Upset I would say Mint error and therefore worth lots of money as it stands I don't know.
