I would like an ID for this coin. The coin is about the size of a quarter, but it is a lot thicker. The metal looks silver and it appears to be hammered. The coin is holed and it looks like it was used as jewelry at one time.

@rva, that is an interesting piece. It looks like one word in the inscription surrounding the double-headed dragon is WISDOM. On the rev, perhaps that is St. George? In the exergue, I can't quite make out the letters/numbers--maybe 1580 or 1589? Having the coin in hand, can you please confirm? Thx.

I see WISDOM and also GRACE at the end of the legend.

Originally I thought maybe not St George because he is usually shown skewering the dragon, or nimbate (or both), but with the dragon on the other side, maybe yes.

I appears to me to be a token made to look older than it really is. For a token from 1589 or especially 1539, I might expect the legend to still be in Latin.

I had thought perhaps something pertaining to the Order of St. George, but the motto is not right, and the founding date was not 1589.

Maybe some chivalric order with Wisdom ... Grace in its motto (ENglish, or course).

I agree. That date in the 16th Century seems to be indicative of an event rather that when it was made.

It's a Ron Landis Texas State Renaissance Fair medal. His initials are on the reverse.
