Two days ago I received this cent in my change. when I took a closer look at it I noticed how different the date was. I compared it to the other 2021 shield cent I have found but couldn't find another one like it. Can somebody maybe help me understand what it could be? I would really appreciate it.

What are you seeing on the date? It looks normal to my eye. Maybe I'll see it after you point it out.

Notice how much thicker and kind of almost stretched out looking my coin is compared to the normal coin. There's also some kind of I guess outline on my coin.

Could you get a clear focused closeup of the date. I see what you mean by thicker but as I open your first picture it is very small and the second being in the comparison is sort of blurry too see doubling.

As of now I am thinking it is a deteriorating die.

That is in fact a class 9 DDO, maybe too minor to list but a doubled die none the less. Where I'm a new member, I'm not supposed to add links but check out coppercoins 2020 P DDO's and go to 002. It has similar, light distortion, which is common with the class 9. Here is also a pic of one I recently found, which is also probably too minor to list. Yours has the distortion on the opposing side of mine.

I agree this is may be a minor DDO, light distortion on the date. Pics aren't clear enough to be 100% sure but has a good shot.

I will do my best to get better pictures but I have a really cheap phone so the camera is not good. Unfortunately that's all I have. Thank you very much everyone for coming and helping me with this. I'm always hoping to find something new and as minor is it may be I'm still happy I found it. I don't tend to report that sort of thing so I don't really know how to, therefore more than likely I won't get it attributed.

It seems he is a bit behind on submissions but not many options for attributing the minor varieties at the moment. http://www.doubleddie.com/402401.html

I would attribute it and send to a TPG just to get a New Discovery slab even though it won't be worth it I think.
