I was attempting to clean up some piles of "stuff" around this room and found a present from my mother that got put in the wrong place.

I always tell people NOT to buy me anything related to my hobbies because they usually have no idea what I want/need, or where to get any of it.

BUT, Ma ordered me a Bradford Mint Promontory Point anniversary coin for my railroad collection. I looked for it on their website, and it was supposed to be part of a set that appears to have never been produced after the initial coin. It is also supposed to be silver. Now, I don't know if it is SOLID silver or not (I hope so, seeing as she left the invoice in the envelope so I know what it cost).

Anyhoo, I thought I'd post it for any interested folks here to see. The photos make it look BLACK but it isn't. It is made like a proof coin, with a mirror background.

AHA, missed this before:

"99.9% silver-plated Proof coin collection marks historic anniversary. 24K gold-accented privy marks."

Gutsy of them...

Well, it is an attractive item even if it is not worth much.

It is an interesting piece. As I've collected coins since I was a kid in the '60's, I've got a box of items like this I received over the years as gifts. While most were items I'd never purchase myself, I always truly appreciated the thought they put into it. And they're all duly noted in my numismatic inventory...

But it does have that sentimental "mom" value.
