Hey, I mean when I CRH, I have to be looking through the coins anyways, so why not look for coppers too? And I think I'm one of the ones who can discern copper/zinc just by looking at the coin

Quote:I prefer wheaties but the 3rd era coins (1959-1982) will be much more "collectible" in the future. The copper LMC could be the next generations wheaties! I agree with everything Brad has said. Why more collectible? Because it's a cheap and easy series to complete. I think interest will grow with the design change. In a sense, the Memorials are the next "wheatie". Another coin design phased out by the mint.

I still save them. I've got 30 or more years until I can retire so the worst that can happen is that they're only worth 1 cent.

I agree with this. Since I'm just saving them for melt value in the future, I just roll them up, put them in a box of $25 and toss them in the closet. They take up almost no space, so even if I get to $200 or more, what's the big deal space-wise? Like docsfishn said, at worst, they'll be worth 1¢, maybe even a fraction more to a collector.

I for one am still hoarding all of the copper Lincolns that I come across roll searching, who knows if the price of copper will go up again in the near future After all if it does not go up I still can turn them in for $25.00 a box, right John1

I still pull out the coppers. I currently have around $900 face. My plan is when I have enough to buy a 1955 doubled die then I will turn my large copper stash into small copper stash. At that point if I can get more than face it will just be a bonus.

Point of consideration- one might argue that the Zincolns could end up being more valuable than the coppers at the higher grades because so many of them were miserably struck, and they corrode like nobody's business...

I'm sitting on 17 boxes ($425 face) right now, and constantly adding more. I look through bank box after bank box after bank box anyway, so I might as well put them aside. Besides, If I need the money for some reason I know of a dealer that is paying 65 cents a roll for them, even now with them not worth that much.

Think about this for a moment:
If the price of silver were around $3.50 an ounce, then 40% silver halves would only be worth "face value". Would you stop accumulating them? Would you turn your hoard in to the bank?

Well, Every time I did acquire a small hoard, they sat around in a small jug, unrolled. Then, I think, "Where on earth could I sell them?" and bills come around, so they get dumped in the credit union's coin machine. I will not part with red AU, S-mint Memorials, or any wheats. Any 1974 stays in the collection, as does an 82. I want to see how many of each variety of large/small date can be found.

I've been doing some roll hunting on a small scale, and still pull all the pre-82's. If anything, it's like saving a few bucks every box that I search. If the price of copper goes back up, I'll have a nice little stash to sell.
