I started coin roll hunting for halves about 15 months ago and was hoping for an explanation on all of the "doubling" I see on the reverse. Mostly I see it on those minted 1971-1979, but have examples for every year through 1999 (except '87), mostly Philadelphia. Some of them look like they were struck by some drunken sailors I've served with, but I've never seen any reference to these coins being considered as error coins. Other than having them as an oddity, is there any value to them?

. We will need to see a few good photos of them to help you. There are many types of doubling we need to learn. Here is a very good link: https://koinpro.tripod.com/Articles...Doubling.htm
Click on the small pic on that site to enlarge them.

That's because a Doubled Die is a variety, not an error.
Any other type of doubling is considered "worthless doubling"

On the larger denomination coins, the amounts are often machine doubled. Check to see what to look for on years as some have very little listings.

Reverse JFK halves:

View this like a map. Where to find Waldo. A lot of Machine Doubling on these years also.
