A new purchase for me. 1834 large date, large letters. I believe it is a O-102,and a pretty obvious late die state coin. It has a heavily recut 3 in the date. If anyone can verify this I would appreciate it. What do you think it grades? :Edited: to add that there is a small nick that is barely noticeable directly in front of the curl that is in front of her ear.

This one makes me appreciate US coin designs of the 19th century!
I am not as excited with what we had circulating from the turn of the century onwards. Well done!

Thanks for the comments. It does show some signs of a very light cleaning that must have been long ago. I am stuck between XF-45 and AU-50. Maybe someday I will see what a TPG has to say. It has some wonderful luster and a very original looking skin on it. I purchased it raw in a paper 2x2 envelope, on it says the original purchase price of 25$ and it's date of purchase 1957. It was graded XF-45 back then. This is my first bust half and certainly not my last.

Can you explain what characteristics you see that makes it appear cleaned?

It does appear to have a lot of light to moderate wear in the hair area and on the edge of the eagles wings..so EF40 for me

AU50+, I see nothing in the photo that would indicate cleaning to me. I don't think there would be any problem noted. Very Nice coin.

AU-50, the coin appears to simply have been struck by a worn die. Also think the O-102 attribution is accurate as well.

Thanks bonedigger for verifying the 102. I spent about a half hour trying to attribute it. I like these bust halfs because you dont to purchase high grade coins to have a very eye appealing coin.
