Nickels drive me bananas, but that looks like doubling to me. Couple nickel experts on the forum so really hope they chime in. Nickels have MD and die issues that I can't easily resolve so will hope they answer.

Not my area but looks like DDD=die deterioration doubling. Also,it would be called a doubled die not a double die.

Looks mostly like a tired die to me, but I agree that these can be pretty tough to distinguish. Here is a link to the varietyvista page on '64 DDOs—I see a few that are on business strikes:

As TB said, nickels are hard, but I've been doing a lot of nickel hunts lately and I feel very confident that this is Die Deterioration Doubling, not a doubled die.
