Ran across this a little while ago, set it aside to see if it's worth following up on. I've seen a couple examples online of the 1969 S DDO "Liberty" being a bit distorted, but this is the biggest curve I've seen where the letters were shifted (during a DDO?) Your thoughts on 1- If it's a DDO, and 2- If it's worth sending to PCGS to certify if so? Thanks all! =)

You can tell that LIBERTY was originally struck "level" from my pic but I'm not sure what has caused this arced look. There would appear to be much damage and also deterioration but I think there is more going on here. The rim shows what looks like a MAD strike but also, the rim to the west of LIBERTY and east of the date, has an almost twisted look to it, like it may have been struck, out of collar.
Can you give us a pic of the coins edge, while laying flat, like the second pic I've shown? This would help to show if there is post strike damage. By the way, this is not a doubled die.

You do know what the big DDO looks like?

Yours is not one of the DDO's listed for that year.

Do you know what it costs to have a coin slabbed by PCGS? Figure $50. How much will you get back extra for a graded coin? I know I only pay raw prices. Graded coins are even incorrect. So to spend $50 for a child proof holder for a coin worth one cent, doesn't make sense to me?

Thanks Makecents - I'll post a picture of the coin from the side tonight. Was reading up on MAD strikes here: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/an...coins.71781/

As for the true DDO Coop, I know mine's not that, and will be more judicious in the future when saying " DDO" on coins, and will just assume MD to start. =) Just never seen LIBERTY distorted like this online, in a 1969s or otherwise.

chriseug, I think Coop got you squared away, just MD and a beat up coin. Next time, with the pics, just one or two, clear close ups will do.
