I have had this coin for years now and the color is a beautiful black and the side of the rim looks fresh.

It doesn't look like environmentally damaged nor exposed at all but, I should ask the experts if what do they think of it.

The photos are of the same coin, just different lighting angles.

Please tell me what you think. Thank you.

This coin has suffered post Mint heat stress.

For an experiment, heat a dime to red heat, then drop into cold water. The coin will turn a rather scary black color.
Then you can have some fun by offering it in payment to a check-out chick, and see the reaction!

Environmental tarnishing/staining/discolouration from being in chemical or acidic or heat conditions. Such discolouration means the coin is post mint damage ( PMD). From who? Only the person who found it in these conditions knows. No premium value I'm afraid.

With all due respect, I would like to propose a question. At what point would you consider an IA planchet to be valid? I have come across numerous examples that I strongly believed to be Improperly Annealed (IA) coins but have never had a definitive answer, only to be told a host of supposed reasons.
I rely on Mr. Fred Weinberg's assessment of an IA coin planchet, taking into account the edge of the coin and its certain characteristics, but yet every time one is posted on any forum (not only this one) it always seems to be 'ruled out' as PMD, ED or the such. I would like to respectfully know, and understand, the members reasoning here on CCF as to why every potential IA coin is deemed to be ED or PMD.

I am sure I have found this coin years ago through bank rolls and just set it aside. I am starting to look through my coins again and just picked this one to be verified.

Anyway, thank you for our expert(s) input to be able to categorize it quickly as PMD. I thought it is a bit difficult to figure out which are IA and which are PMD given I would have to say it's a neat coin sample, although there is always the possibility.
