I posted in my penny thread some pictures of a coin I found that looks "rippled" I read on here that on American coins it's not recognized as an error but on coins an Canada it says it's an error for Canadian coins, Penny's specifically as far as I can tell.

Need to see pictures, but coins and Canada is a terrible website for errors and varieties in my opinion, so I would set absolutely zero store in anything they say being true.

Look at my list about getting 30-40 boxes of pennies the picture is the last one I posted, or just here. , it's like the coins has pours all over it, there is some other photos on my other post.

Not an error as it didn't happen during the striking of the coin. That is a plating problem with the planchet, much like the zincoins in the US. (Glad Canada ditched Copper plated Zinc for coins) As stated, Coins and Canada is OK for general information but much of what they list is inaccurate

Quote: @jimmyD what site would you recommend for Canadian error coins? Don't know of a specific site for Canadian errors but you can use one of the US sites with the same results. Most errors that can occur on US coins can also occur on Canadian coins. This is a site I use sometimes- error-ref.com

It reminded me of orange peel and found it right here, in another post. http://goccf.com/t/278360 Added. Orange peel has become somewhat of a generic term though, with different causes for a similar looking finish, in plated, solid and layered coins. JimmyD, is on point.

Some are caused by heat applied to the coin with a torch: They are post strike damage.

@coop, coins and Canada has it labeled as an error, I think it's not really an error. I read your post one this topic actually. The one person was questioning why it's listed as a Canadian error and not American. I think this could be an issue from the mint in Canada but nothing special. It's only on some pennies and not that uncommon, that coin you posted I understand, the Canadian ones iv come across it's alot less severe, also they have the the exact same patter over the coin(gaps from one to the next are the same) also it's more like pours on the coin then ripples.
