What you have is a trumpet tail but that in itself does not make it special. There were also sans serif mm that year, many of both. Here is a link that shows the mint mark styles for each year. http://www.varietyvista.com/01a%20L...20Styles.htm
There are several RPM's for this year too but cannot tell from the glare on your pics. Here is a link for the RPM's. http://www.varietyvista.com/02a%20L...%201946S.htm
There was also an inverted mm that year but it is a ball serif, which yours is not. http://www.varietyvista.com/01a%20L...6SIMM001.htm
I forgot, there is also an OMM for that year but yours is not that either, here's a link. http://www.varietyvista.com/02a%20L...6SOMM001.htm A lot going on that year.

If I can't find a simpler way, I've just not thought of it yet. I have over 12K images and adding more each day. You've seen them before.

Sometimes a single picture tells a story/teaches/directs the reader to help him:

These are not all of these images. If I posted all of them the total would 576 images. But a picture not only paints a thousand words, helps the wise perhaps, to learn something new, each time they are read.

Yes sir. If you are paying attention, at all, you should pick up on new things each day. The visuals help greatly though.

I will have much to learn from you and others here. My strengths are with Lincolns and Morgans. Everything in between is sketchy at best for me.

My expertise is on Lincoln cents. The rest is more of an open book to me. But learning all as we go along. When you learn to pick up on why is something a doubled die. Or why is something a RPM. When you look into the subject you learn causes/affect, why it is, or is not a variety. Then you start to understand it better. It is like going to the beach and watching the waves come in. If that is all you see, then you are not board with it yet. Soon. You are looking further out to see to see what is causing the waves. Or when they hit the reef, the water splashes. What is the cause. Why does the water only some in so far and it is different at different times. What is in the water. Is it dangerous? So many things you miss, if all your looking at is the waves?

Speaking of what lies beneath the waves, I was thinking of starting a running thread of trail dies, for all to add to. I did not see one anywhere.
