I've been meaning to post this. Coops info about What is a Die Gouge? helped me remember.

Just curious about those issues top left of HE of THEODORE. They look really close being the same. Wondering what caused them?

By the way Coop. If you keep posting your information about coins I'm going to have a information library as large as your 12,000+ soon.
Thanks much!!

All of the DDR's are on the central area of the design. There are no DDR's on the outer ring devices. What you are seeing is Machine Doubling on the incuse devices:

The rules for raised and incuse devices are just opposite each other.
Raised devices are enlarged on a doubled die. Machine Doubling is a reduction of the doubled die.
Incuse devices are enlarged on Machine Doubling, reduced in size on the doubled dies.
VDB on cents are incuse:

Note how the Machine Doubling enlarges these?

Note how the Machine Doubling enlarges the EPU on the shield cents?

Note the reduction of the size on the DDR on the EPU

Note all the raised devices are enlarged, all the incuse devices (EPU) are reduced in size?
So there are no DDR's on the outer devices on the ATB Quarters. This Machine Doubling happens 70% of the time. (very common) Only 30% are not showing Machine Doubling on these devices.

Yes. On the single squeeze dies, that area produces no doubled dies. All the DDRs are in the central areas of the designs. Read Wexler's listing to learn what to look for on these new doubled dies, and then you will learn the right areas to check and save a eyes from looking in the wrong areas.
