Just out of curiosity, where did you get this coin? One more pic too, if you could, of the edge/side of the coin. It's interesting.

Coins have been known to be stripped of their copper plating, post mint but yours looks pretty decent. Other, more knowledgeable folks in this area will need to chime in. This is a little above my pay grade. Here is a link about what I'm referring too. http://www.error-ref.com/un-plated_coins/

Not an error at all. Someone altered the finish on this coin after it left the mint. If it was silver it would weigh considerably more than 2.58 grams. If it was aluminum it would definitely weigh less than 1.8 grams which is not even a possibility. This is yet just another coin that was tampered with after it left the mint. Most likely electroplated thus accounting for the slightly minuscule above average weight for a zinc Cent. Pretty cool looking though IMHO.

Looks like someone took a fresh near uncirculated cent and zinc coated it..

@king, it isn't weakly attracted to a magnet is it? We might be able to narrow down what the post-mint plating is.

I was hoping we would have some of those edge pics by this morning. A lot of the time, that will tell the tale. I think you guys are right though.

I have to agree, definitely plated. Considered now a post mint damaged coin. No premium I'm afraid. Keep searching! to the CFF!

I have run across several just like that. Someone took it to work and chrome plated it. Just my opinion.
