to CCF! Another good way for you to get started here on CCF would be to type the name Princetane into the little search slot at the upper left of your screen and scroll through the results for some excellent coverage of NZ coinage. Best wishes in your new hobby!

Each time you have a specific question, start a new thread here with as much information as possible in the title, and you will get help.
And, yes, as mentioned by @daltonista, we are lucky to have @princetane on this forum, who can help with any question you have about NZ coinage!

Group by country then denomination then year is a good start to organising any collection. Use gloves as I have ruined a few copper coins early on with my daft fingerprints.

Scrooge Mc Duck nearly drowned once, when swimming in his money bin. A difference: He would be more closely termed as an accumulator, rather than a collector. Academically, I don't think he ever achieved the level of 'numistmatist'.

Quote: what I need to know about my inherited collection Could you flip it quick to a sibling and never look back? Coin collecting is a gateway drug and should be avoided at all costs!

with the above comments. Yes, Princetane is your goto guru on Kiwi Koinage. For modern Kiwi coins I would look at this thread: http://goccf.com/t/380477In addition to the other comments, I would also look into storage. Some of the older storage choices are frowned upon today. These include the old cardboard albums, PVC wallets. Products leach from these materials and ruin coins. You may wish to sell the collection down the track and find some of the coins have lost value owing to the storage conditions. On that note, I would recommend some cotton gloves and some acetone, especially for coins suffering from the PVC green disease.
