Well that would be impossible. No silver was in the mint at that time. So if the edge is not showing copper, it was probably a plated coin. They can't strike something they don't have.

More food for thought. Plated or altered coins after strike are common.
That said pending which mint? Silver was in use in one. As well as stainless steal and chrome, not to mention nickel and aluminum alloys were in use for foreign coinage in the others. Thanks, Doug.
I am confused. There was no silver in the mint in 1966 until someone found the quarter. There was no silver in the mint in 1967 until someone found the quarter. There was no copper in 1982 Denver SD until someone found one. There was no copper in the mint in 1989 LMC until someone found one. There were no zinc-steel planchets in the mint in 1944 until someone found one. Impossible? Really? Did I misinterpret something? Please set me straight.
