This is the third earliest date for a BIE multiple on cuds-on-coins.com. You can debate whether this is a BIE, a die break or a die crack all you want, but it's listed on CoC and that's what counts for me as it's been vetted as meeting the criteria. Just pulled it out of a bag of about 150 steel cents. 1943 Lincoln Wheat cent die event - LDB3456-1943-001

I never would have thought of this as a BIE, but I can see what CoC is getting it. I'll be looking at my coins with a different idea in mind for the spaces between the letters of LIBERTY.
I may have more BIEs than I thought!
Interesting!

Probably not what the category was made for but it meets the requirements so count it.

I do not consider that a BIE. John1

Interesting coin. Nice find.
What is the lighter colored streak running NW to SE? (It almost looks like a spike head but the color differential seems to continue through the 43 of the date and ends as a die crack as it exits the rim.)

All said, it's nice to see a strong '43 without the post-mint plating.

Must admit that "BIE" does not leap to mind here.

Very nice die crack. I guess that is what a BIE is really, but the "chip" isn't there.

Well Pete now you've done it. I checked the coin and that streak is just that, a bit of a streaky color area and not related to the die. But when looking at it I found, yes, it is a Spike Head. Apparently I also missed that when I submitted the original coin to CoC for that listing as it is still unlisted. Now I need to get the photos of this coin together and submit the Spike so that it can be cross referenced with the BIE.

I bought over 50,000 Lincolns this summer. There's so much material floating around here right now it seems like it will take forever to get through it all. But that I will do, other than a couple lots that I'll just wholesale off as-is. I'll organize it over the next week while searching some of the stuff along the way. But it's like stocking up on firewood for the winter, as I mostly sort, search and sell off during the winter when the bats are asleep.

Hey Keith. I started looking at my example of this die and even though the crack is very similar through LIBERTY my coin has four spike heads and at least one rim to rim die crack. Also none of the spikes go through WE. I'm thinking this will be a new listing. http://goccf.com/t/381022

Oh dear, there are two of these things very similar! I think I still own the original plate coin and will have to rummage around and find it to check the other die cracks and see what matches up. Well spotted Will!

I just pulled the plate coin for that BIE. It matches the one I posted in this thread, so I'm all good there. However Will, you have a new BIE. Huge congrats on that find, as it is so similar that it would be very hard to have ever figured it out without the digging around and discussions on this thread.
