to the CCF What denomination are you referring to? Also pictures would also be a great benefit in determining what you have.

@dice, first welcome to CCF. Second if you use the search button in the top left corner of your screen with the keywords HORIZONTAL D, you will find multiple examples that have been posted on our forum. Here is a link to one example: http://goccf.com/t/301019

On the mintmarks, they are raised above the fields. Same for the RPM/rotated RPMs, they would be raised. not level with the fields. Often stains on coin are assumed to happen to cause a rotated mintmark. But the fact of the rising above the fields is often not considered. (Sometimes grease and grime as assumed to be one of these. But they would need to be die metal, not grease or stains)

I know of a 1942 Jefferson nickel D/ Horizontal D and have one. Maybe you have a typo as 1952?

I guess you're talking to me Dearborn. I don't want to hijack the thread with my coin but here's a oic of my mintmark on a decent circulated coin. Here's someone else's in MS condition for reference.

@dice, it is a little hard to see what is going on with the current pic. Even when I crop, enlarge, and enhance, I'm not seeing enough to know what you have there:

Hi Spence, thanks. If you turn your phone upside down you can see it way better.

Orient your photos so we don't have the stand on our heads to see it. While you're at it, we need full photos of your coin, both sides, PLEASE
