I phoned the RCM about a week and a half ago. I was informed at that time that the Klondike Loonies were scheduled to be shipped on Aug 13. Yesterday I phoned for an update regarding the shipment. I was informed that the Klondike Loonies were being postponed until September. WUUUUT? The person I was speaking with also said there was a notice on the mint.ca website announcing the delay. I don't see any announcement. This seems to be just the latest in along string of inconsistencies and disappointments from the Mint lately.

@Alex A The plio 5 packs are some of my all time favorite collections from the R C Mint Yes, I am still waiting for their return as well but not looking like that's going to happen. I have an extensive 5 pack plio collection that consisted of Lucky Loonies, Stanley Cup quarters and Canadian Flag quarters just to name a few. Over the years I have obtained a quantity of the Green plio pack folders that the Mint used to sell that would hold 10 plio packs in the folder.

@tender4848 Looks Great... I have never seen these green RCM packs. I have a similar grey set that I got with the Millenium quarter series in 1999 & 2000 and a leather pack I got with the $100 golds but I have never seen these green Plio pack carriers. I have a set of the Lighthouse Numis Albums where I keep all Plio packs from 1961 on in a very similar manner to your collection here. I don't have/collect any of the variety packs e.g. multiple 1965 or special CNA type; just the base annual "classic" release. I too lament the loss of the 5 pack for special editions. I would even be prepared to pay a small premium... e.g. $6 or $7.50 for 5 loons, $12.50-$15 for 5- $2 coins. The $25 +/- for a keepsake card is a bit pricy and while there is value in the packaging... Narrative on history, design etc. they also include extraneous regular circulation coins that are superfluous if you already pick up the "PL/Unc" set or whatever it is they are calling it these days. Oh by the way... what is the definition of Circ vs. Unc in 2021. When I look at the Giftware sets (baby, wedding etc.) or the Classic Set on the RCM webpage, the finish is defined as "Uncirculated" On the Insulin keepsake card, all of the coins except for the two $2 coins are also Uncirculated finish but the $2 coloured and non-coloured are both noted as "Circulated" Now I know that these haven't been through the local grocery store so from the perspective of usage... all are uncirculated but the difference in designation implies a difference in minting or finishing... Any thoughts?

The great lakes coin too. I just got notice that it is in back order, and postponed to next month for delivery. I am waiting for them to make the invoice so I have spent enough to be a MC platinum and have access to MC coins, now, next month, very disappointed.

Quote: Oh by the way... what is the definition of Circ vs. Unc in 2021 None. They are all made at the Winnipeg plant. The Royal Canadian Mint stopped making proof-like (or what ICCS calls 'Numismatic BU' in 2010. The various sets and stuff you see now, are just the results of third party contractors putting these things together from coins struck in Winnipeg, by the same process used for normal circulation coins.

Thanks @SPP-Ottawa... So Winnipeg is set up to mint with specialty processes such as decal application or colourizing... I thought all non-standard minting went through Ottawa even for base metal (circulating) coins when colourizing. I also didn't realize that the specialty packs are outsourced to assembly contractors... That adds to the explanation of why 5-pack plios are off the list... No margin in them. Live & Learn. Out of interest are the Specimen & Proof Sets and other items made from coins minted in Ottawa assembled by the RCM or are they similarly outsourced for assembly?

The colour printing of RCM coins are third party to an outfit in the US, and recently some NCLT coins are now produced at Winnipeg

wow, I am "so happy" that you guys are spending your hard-earned money (I hope) on all this RCM stuff. I sincerely hope it pays for you at a break-even point someday in the future. I just turned down a collection of mint stuff, $ 840 FV, most of it nickel coins and sets, where the seller had the RCM invoices and told me it is a good investment. asking price $ 2800. I suggested I pay FV as it is way too much work to even sell it. The seller suggested he had an offer for 1900 and called me a crook. I said: you made a mistake: you should have sold it.

47P7, this thread is about circulation coins, "mint stuff" that you can find in your change, of course it's only worth FV. But don't forget 1947 dollars were once only worth face value.

Sorry DBM
but if these are circ coins, why are they being sold in sets as pictured in the foregoing posts? IMO, a true circ coin come either in bags or rolls? right?and is distributed at FV, not sold at a huge Markup by the mint? The subject is out of my knowledge area but it is interesting to know. I guess it does not really matter DBM...47's yes, lets have them back in a few sealed bags?
