Satin finish 2009 Lincoln cents from mint sets are 95% copper alloy, 3% zinc and 2% tin with a weight of 3.1 grams. Looks like you've found one that was released into the wild.

We all do. No such thing as knowing it all. We just have to keep our eyes open.

So that means the transitional copper ones might be found in 2010 Lincoln shield cents.
Wonder how many copper planchets were ultimately used for authorized mintages?

I like how you used "might" in light italic, it doesn't take much for me to make me laugh anymore, I've become quite whimsical. Nice to here from ya! I see you popping in from time to time and place to place. It does stand to reason the the 2010 thing could happen though.

Yeah. I've never been able to tell a satin from a business strike once it's circulated. Anyways I think you'd be more likely to find a zinc satin in a mint set (although no idea how you'd figure that out without opening them). than a copper business strike in circulation, but been a long time now and nothings turned up.
2017 no P never materialized either, so far no WCD/tuskeegee obverse mules either.
People like to speculate. Worth a shot looking into it but don't drive yourself crazy looking for it when not a single one has been found yet. Maybe one turns up. Maybe not. Only way to find it is by looking for it but people been looking since 2009...

I see you popping in from time to time and place to place. Thanks but work is cutting into my hobby time. Not good! Yepper. And throwing a little tease out there because I never thought much about these 2009 copper cents being a transitional variety. The mint probably took safeguards to try and eliminate any transitional varieties. They probably did the copper ones early or sandwiched their production between other 2009 Lincolns to minimize the chance the copper planchets might escape into 2010. Maybe time to start thinking about a sorting operation for copper cents?

Each of the four different reverse Lincoln Bicentennial satin finish cents were struck on 95% copper planchets and should weigh 3.11 grams.
ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!

Since all four were struck on the copper planchets (not just one), does that mean there's a 300% increase that there might be a transitional variety in subsequent years? Now that would be a fun find.

They don't show up to often. Back in 2010-11 maybe 12. I luckily found 2 Philadelphia Presidency not in the greatest shape. Back in February of 2020 I pulled a Denver Birth in pretty nice shape for being a bank role. Couple years back our son gave me a role of 2009 P/customer role from his bank marked save 09. In it was 8 copper 2 each. One of the Formative years has an extra thumb. I haven't run across any more sense but I keep weighing them just in case. Just for the hunt. I didn't think about maybe a copper planchet or two could show up in a different year. I just remembered. I post the Denver copper on CCF back in early 2020. Far as I remember someone said something about it's not an error or something like that. Which I new it wasn't but thought it was just rare to find.
