It felt different than all my 70's quarters..sounds different when I drop it. More like a silver sound. I took a pic of the quarter on scale as well as all my other 70s quarters I Kno they are off by a few points but it looks sounds and feels different...

A clad Washington quarter should weigh 5.67g with a tolerance of +/- .227g. So, that's 5.443g for the minimum weight, and 5.897 for the maximum. A 90% silver Washington quarter should weigh 6.25 grams with a tolerance of +/- 0.194 grams. That would be 6.056 for the minimum, and 6.444 maximum.

All of the weights above are within mint tolerance, with the coin in question being slightly over the clad design weight. It may have been a slightly overweight planchet to start with, but it still falls short of the minimum target weight for a 90% silver planchet.

If you have a silver buyer or a coin shop that has an XRF analyzer, they can scan the coin and let you know the true composition.

Agree with Yokozuna. What does the reeded edge look like? Consider posting a couple end-on photos of the reeded edge--might show something. Thanks.

It definitely doesn't appear to be silver, it looks clad.

The edge looks normal.

Do you know if any local shops have an X-Ray Florescence Analyzer (XFR)? At this point the only way say with certainty is to have the coin scanned. It only takes about a second and doesn't harm the coin.

From the images of the obverse, reverse, and edge, this coin is clearly a common clad quarter within the mint Weight Tolerance. Nothing special, but may be a keeper if you like it.
