And Yet another find at work! This one shows almost a complete profile of Jefferson on the reverse. You can also notice a few lines from the building on the obverse. Does anyone know what this might be worth?

Looks like a fairly strong Die clash nickel. First one of them I've seen but there are probably more of them out there. Few Nickel collectors and a lot of Cent collectors, so the Cent gets looked at more often. If it were BU it would be worth a little, but more of a conversation piece unless you found someone who collected clashes.

Not the marks in the fields of you coin. When a clash happens the outsides of the dies (Fields) make contact and leave a clash line on each other from the other die. Interesting find though.

It is call a clashed die I believe. I think it is caused by having the dies come together with great force without a blank planchet in place. This permanently changes the die design. I suppose the mint people replace the dies when this is detected but the nickels slipped through to be released in mint bags.
I would say you have a pretty good example of it. I do not know the value but I would guess it is not a huge amount. Maybe 5 or 10 bucks value is my guess.

LOL! Posting pretty much the same thing as coop. That makes me feel good to be describing it similarly. Maybe the value is a little high that I guessed. It is a 1982 though. Maybe making a small set of these with different dates would make them more valuable.

The pictures are helpful, but on my coin the image of him is facing to the right. You can tell on my second picture. That is actually the bow in his hair. I don't really know if that makes a difference though.

Check again. The ribbon is near the UNUM on the image and on the overlay. The reason the head faces a different direction is that is the position the dies would be in during a strike. The letters also would be reverse on the opposing dies leaving a mirrored device if it shows on the field.

It doesn't because on your picture Monticello is also upside down. If you rotate the coin around so the building is upright Jefferson will be upside down and facing left just like in Coops pictures. The one thing that I do notice though is that the dies were misaligned when they clashed. Normally the final O in Monticello shows behind Jeffersons head but on yours the head overlaps that O.

He's facing to the right because you've got the reverse of the coin upside down. :)

Compare it to Coop's second picture. The first picture he posted it a view of the obverse.

( edit )
Apparently I'm too slow. :)
