Looks like a major case of Zinc Rot! The copper plating on the coin has been damaged and the zinc core is corroding. This is a problem with the US One Cent coins starting in the second half of 1982.

Spend it while you can still tell what it is!

The Coin isn't that bad of shape.. all things considered.

The back isn't bad, and doesn't have any craters. Or chips off the rim. They extend half way to the reverse. The top of the coin at Lincoln's head is visibly tapered thinner . In all events.. I'm keeping it. Lol

Yes, zinc rot. What does the reverse look like--close or Wide AM?

@origiSin if you call that "not in bad shape all things considered," I'd hate to see what you *would* consider bad shape...

That poor thing is in terrible shape.. in a few short years, if kept in the same type of environment, that will be a non-coin. You will get it out one day and just see a small pile of zinc dust.
