Hi all,

I pulled this from a penny roll. I've seen alot of pennies, but immediately this one struck me as looking odd, almost like monopoly money (so to speak). The weight is accurate at 3.05 grams, but I'm just curious for any thoughts. I'm sure it's normal, but there's something about the color or something else that I can't describe that makes this penny look different from any others I've seen. Am I seeing things? Thanks!

I believe this coin has been cleaned, with an eraser or something. Whatever it was the cleaner used, they only got the higher points of the design.

It has been altered. 3.05 is not normal. 3.11 +/- .10 grams is normal.

Does look like an eraser job--maybe done in a middle school study hall in the mid 90s. I experimented with an eraser on a Memorial cent many years ago--looks just like the photos posted.

It does look like a plastic coin.

But the extreme cleaning altered the surface color.

Yep an eraser job, As stated above, the high points got polished and all flat areas of the field where the eraser could reach, leaving the corners alone.

Seems much too evenly toned for an "eraser job". Has to be another explanation.

Maybe someone buffed/polished it then applied an antique finish on it? Could be a million things, but for sure altered...PMD.
