I just got the grade back for this...PCGS PL68. I am on the fence about whether I will send it back for reconsideration because believe it or not, I think this coin is worthy of a PL69.. this piece is literally flawless..an absolute gem. It almost looks like a computer generated image!

That is extraordinary! My favourite thing about the old silver dollar is the radiant northern lights above the canoe. They actually look like they're shimmering on this one.... gorgeous. Some coins are beyond grading.

Beautiful coin Will, I don't know how you keep coming up with these.
Hard to tell from a picture when you get to the higher grades
but I know you are expert enough in grading that if you think
It is worthy of a higher grade, then go for it.

I agree: it appears to be an absolute gem but at this grade level, it would be impossible to disagree with PCGS, when looking at on screen pictures.

Why do you see the need to have it re submitted?
Certainly no need, unless you intend to re sell it, hoping for more money. To my eye, I would be more than happy just to keep it, anyway.
There is a possibility, that it may come back at PL-67 if re submitted, but impossible for us to speculate up or down. The pictures need to be of pin sharp museum quality for us to be in a position to disagree with PCGS. You need to photograph it out of the slab to do that.

Save off the TrueView and zoom in to your heart's content. I see a nick across the bottom of RE that might preclude a higher grade. https://www.PCGS.com/cert/43431463
Pop report https://www.PCGS.com/pop/detail/eli...53-1987/4401 shows 14 in PL68 with none higher. Only 4 graded as PLCAM with 1 graded 68.
Your coin is featured first on their coin facts https://www.PCGS.com/valueview/eliz...=32525&h=pop and it's interesting to compare the 68s. I can't tell the different between these and the ones designated CAM, and oddly they all display as MS grades, not PL. What does your slab say?

Will , that is a fantastic piece !
Looks very very similar to the one
I found in Chicago at CICF in the
1980s . Came out of a 1956 Set
purchased from Glenn Schinke
a known US Coin dealer and a personal
Friend .
I sent in the Dollar to ICCS and to this day
it is still the ONLY PL68 graded by them .
Sold the coin to a client in BC in the early
1990s for stupid money!
As a slightly OT to this , 1956 seems to be the
Year that superb PL coins were issued .
I for one know you would love to find a 1957
Even close to your gorgeous 1956 !

ON my screen, this coin shows up with a 9 inch diameter size.
I agree: PCGS PL-68, addition:- CAMEO!
