Hi all, I inherited a whitman Mercury dime album, mostly full, and from what I understand of circulated coins, none of them can be a higher grade than a VG8. However, these little coins intrigue me. So, I bought a better looking 1945 micro s? to try to learn grading. Lifelong stamp collector here, and grading stamps seems far and away easier for me than coins In other words, I have no clue how to grade this coin. I also have no idea how to get the luster to show in the image, but I am working through that forum now and hopefully I'll get a better process. Anyway, here is what I got and I appreciate any and all grading information on it.

I'll say mid-AU (About Uncirculated), possibly cleaned? to the CCF!

Thanks coinfrog. The lines on the obverse might be remnants of cleaning?

There's a bit too much flashback to see the surface details clearly.

Given the images posted, I'd say mid AU. Try using a diffused light source, such as translucent white plastic or tracing paper, placed between the light source and the subject. Thanks.

If the album is mostly full, I'm guessing you're missing the 1916-D, 1921, 1921-D, and maybe a couple of others. Sounds like it was assembled from circulation finds. Those little Mercuries *are* addictive!

try photographing it in natural indirect lighting. overhead lighting will give you too much reflective light and hides the surfaces for a good eval. looks mid-AU but possible a details coin depending on what the real surfaces are. to the world of Numismatics

AU-50, looks like a Micro S variety.
